 Cheap Laptop bags:
When choosing a laptop bag you need to be sure that it will offer physical protection to the computer. Most of todays specialist laptop bags have a specially designed suspended compartment for the computer, which also may be padded with foam.

Selecting laptop bags is a bit like specifying computers. You need to make two lists:

Where are you going to be using the bag?

What will you carry in your laptop bag?

A good laptop bag should offer plenty of pockets sized to accomodate the laptop power supply, CDs and DVDs, a mouse, pens and paper, and any other stuff you will carry (sandwiches etc.)
The laptop bag should be a suitable size for your computer. As todays laptops come in a wide range of sizes and weights check out the bag before you buy it. The bag should be comfortable to carry and use. Decide whether you require a breifcase style bag, or a rucksack style bag. There are a massive range of both styles of bags, and prices range almost as much.

Breifcase Laptop Bags
Breifcase style laptop bags are good for ease of access to your equipment, and are smart and suitable for office enviroments. Make sure the laptop bag comes with a good, wide carry strap. Remember - once you have the bag loaded with laptop and associated goodies, and maybe a newspaper and lunchtime snack, it may weigh upwards of 5kg. A cheap alternative is to use an old breifcase, providing it is rugged and strong enough to carry the PC. You might want to consider investing in some foam - cut out around the computer and components and you have a cheap computer bag that offers superb protection for the computer.

Rucksack Laptop Bags
Many companies such as STM, Belkin and Targus offer rucksack style laptop bags. These bags can offer much more comfort to carry in comparision with breifcase style laptop bags, and can look less business-like, which you may prefer if you are not in an office enviroment. I prefer a rucksack style laptop bag as they are, in my opinion, easier and more comfortable to carry through the city.

A rucksack can be used as a cheap laptop bag, rucksacks with a sturdy, padded section are better. I would recommend, though, investing in a cheap, specially designed laptop rucksack, which can also perform alternative functions - for example I also use my rucksack to carry my photography equipment.

Laptop Security
Security of you laptop can be an issue to consider when selecting a laptop bag. Rucksack style laptop bags are, in my opinion, more secure than breifcase style laptop bags - I think they are less likely to be targeted by theives as they dont look like they contain expensive computer equipment.
