Electronics : External Standalone LCD TV Tuner

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Poor picture quality
I bought this and used it with an HDTV Monitor - not a computer monitor, hoping to get a better signal. I get a better signal by hooking it up to my DVD recorder with composit cables. I was really disappointed. The tuner in this thing needs either upgrading or a signal booster. The picture quality with the LCD TV Box was terrible. I've already disconnected it and am going to regift it at a Christmas party...maybe somebody who gets it for free will enjoy it. Also - best price online is $39 - look around, $99 is way way waaaay too much for this. Happy Hunting.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Little LCD lives again....
because this box has made it a television! I'm using mine with a small 16" Sharp LCD that always had a great picture but has been packed away in a closet for years. With the signal having fewer pixels to spread out on, the picture from this tuner is suprisingly good. I have cable coax going in and then VGA out and into the LCD. I don't have it connected to computer. No more computer TV tuner cards for me! This little thing does it better!

Some have said it's hard to keep the unit in place on the desktop due to it's lightness and cables pulling it around on the small stand. True. Best solution is to lay the unit flat which allows you to flatten the cables out a bit and position the unit firmly. Looking at where the heat vents are on the unit, it appears laying it flat might also be better for it. The little board in there does get hot and heat rises.

Overall this is one of the best electronic buys I've made in years. I now have a cool new LCD TV for a very small cost.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - TV Box
Works great with my LCD monitor (both standalone and through my PC). Decent price! It is fairly light, and with the cable and speaker wires attached, it might be hard to keep it where you want it (That will happen with most TV boxes on the market from my experience), All in all, it works well and was no problem to set up. One thing to keep in mind when putting the battery in the remote is that the battery goes UNDER the + connector, not on top (found out the hard way ...)

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - With a little adaptation...
Good, cheap, and the right power adapter for your wall outlet; which two would you like?

I am using this to add a video/TV screen for a home treadmill, so my requirements were slight. I'm using it with a discarded 15" LCD computer monitor, at 1024x768 resolution. Picture quality is good, tuner sensitivity adequate for my exurban location, and setup was easy and instructions clear. I like it, even with the one glaring obstacle my unit presented.

In the box was a power supply good for 110/220vac, which was good, but it was designed for the outlets with two round pins, instead of US standard blades. There was an adapter provided for US customers which, while it fits my wall socket, does not fit the power adapter itself! Rather than purchase an additional adapter with the right pin arrangement, I was cheap and cracked the adapter's case to solder a pigtail to the primary terminals and adapt it myself. I did experiment with alternate power adapters, but didn't have one of sufficient voltage handy.

Performance is great, and the adapter provided was a nice try, but it would have been better if it had been the correct one.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent overall
If mounted with velcro, this unit, despite its lightness, will stay in place. Great picture with all inputs. Great price as well.
