PC Hardware : Samsung SyncMaster 245BW 24-inch LCD Monitor

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best 24 inch monitor @ the best price!
Got mine from Costco for $379. It is a great LCD screen. Much better than my Dell 20" UltraSharp!
None of the problems reported below occur with me. Samsung is the #1 LCD screen maker, my TV is a Samsung LCD too.
No bad pixels, flickering or any of that...and you can't beat the price!

I had the 245bw for less than a year before it stopped receiving a signal.

Went through troubleshooting with tech support; Tried new cables, tried different ports, tried different machines with different OSs. Nope.

Samsung shipped me a RECONDITIONED replacement that didn't work from the start.

Don't get me started about my second call to tech support, I don't have room and this is a family web site.

Samsung shipped me a RECONDITIONED replacement, again. This will be my third 245bw in a year and I've been w/o my primary monitor for over a month.

**UPDATE***

0 for 3

For my second replacement or third 245bw in a year, Samsung sent me a replacement that is unacceptable by my standards. Call me loco, but if I send in a monitor that I paid over $500 for that is less than a year old and Samsung replaces it with a monitor that doesn't work at all, for the third monitor, I would expect a little effort to make sure THIS ONE was good as new.

Instead of a good as new monitor, Samsung sent me a monitor that has a different problem, high washout, and it seriously looks like it may have been attacked by a bobcat once in it's long life.

Google for yourself. This monitor has a lot of problems and apparently Samsung "customer service" has a few of their own.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - this monitor will break on you
Google this monitor online. This monitor has a known defect. You will get gray/black horizontal lines across the screen after a few months. Don't buy it. Samsung customer service is supposed to be great...but why deal with the hassle. I prefer my products not to break so I don't have to know if the customer service is good or not. Now I have to buy another monitor.

-a frustrated buyer :(

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pleased with my purchase
Primarily, I bought this widescreen monitor in order to be able to watch European DVDs, and I'm very pleased with its performance for that and the other more utilitarian reasons for such a purchase. Samsung is a great brand that gives value for the money. For the record, I checked several authoritative sources of recommendations before I placed my order.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - SyncMaster 245BW Widescreen
Pros: Big lineup of positive goodies.
1. Very flexible on Vista once the driver has been loaded (highly needed in order to view in high resolutions).
2. Video is crisp, clean, and clear (especially for some of the gaming that I do on this machine).
3. Has soft power-off (aka Standby) and a physical power switch on the back which is handy for when you have to unplug due to a severe storm.
4. The stand base has pivot footing so that you can turn the monitor. Riser and the north/south tilting is smooth.
5. Good for DVD movies (especially in widescreen mode).
6. Video response is prestine!
7. Video friendly for all games based off of the Unreal engine.

Cons: I'm not making complaints on this part, I would just point this out:
1. For those who want to tiltscreen (clock/counterclockwise) this particular item does not offer it.

Other: I actually have a dual monitor setup on this machine both running at max resolution. Runs very fluid for the games and the Vista Aero feature. Ran Winamp (v5.50) fullscreen visualizations (MilkDrop v2.0d and AVS v2.81d) with very little to no "video chop".

Systems Used:
1. Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit, ATI 2600 XT via DVI, 8gig RAM
2. Vista Home Prem SP1 32-bit, Intel mobile 945 video card via VGA, 2GIG ram).
