Electronics : Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Pack |
|
Rating: - MSN Live not so easy. Skype great!
I always find it puzzling how poorly some Microsoft products work with others. We tried to get the LifeCam up and running with MSN Live Messenger version 8.5.1302.1018 and had nothing but problems. Then out of frustration we tried Skype version 3.8.0.154 and everything worked seamlessly. As long as we use Skype instead of Messenger, this is a great product.
Rating: - Works great, nice price, but that annoying button on top....
I bought this for two people in our office, and the cameras work well. They are clear and the microphone performs well. The only issue is when adjusting, it is darn-near impossible NOT to hit that button on top (which launches Windows Live messenger, which we don't use). I've seen a buncb of other people mention the same thing. We use Skype... no issues at all with it.
The price for the 2-pack when we purchased (on Amazon) was great, but I've seen it go up about $10 since then.
So, all-in-all, I would have given a 4.5, which I can't, so since it isn't perfect, I'm giving it 4 stars.
I would definitely recommend to others.
Rating: - Very pleased with the web cams!
I wanted a web cam so I could watch my grandson grow up. I love it!
Rating: - Webcam Works - Do not install the software
I am writing this review having just finished exorcising my computer of the software this webcam comes with. Let me explain. After opening the box and inspecting the contents I noticed the USB connector was taped over with a warning written on the tape saying not to install the webcam without installing the software first. I obeyed and put the software on my computer, but I opted out of putting Windows Live Messenger because I already have Skype installed. No sooner than immediately after I installed this software and tested the camera my internet began to behave erratically, loading pages slowly or not at all sometimes. Even my favorite tried and true bandwidth-checking site stopped loading so I couldn't check my bandwidth. Having no doubt in my mind that this camera's software was the offending element I promptly uninstalled it and sprinkled some holy water on my computer for good measure and rebooted. Aaaah. My internet worked again. Sensing the usual chicanery from Microsoft I decided to cast off the dire warning that was bonded to my camera's USB connector and plugged in the camera, again, without installing the software. Behold! The camera still worked even without the invasive software. I inspected my system imaging devices (On Windows XP Right click Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager->Imaging Devices) and the camera drivers were still installed. My advice to anyone who buys this: do exactly as I did. Install the software which will install the drivers and then uninstall the Livecam software (Start->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs). This will keep your webcam drivers but won't keep the onerous software included with the webcam. Hope this helps!
Rating: - VX-3000 is a great cam for the price!
The pack is a great deal. The pic quality is good and appropriate for the price point. Worked perfectly with Skype without any problems (in XP and Fedora 9). Got it to work within Fedora 9 but pic quality is definitely degraded.
Definitely recommend.
