Electronics : PNY Geforce FX5200 256MB PCI Graphics Card |
|
Rating: - Necessary item
It was a great buy. I needed this kind of card 'cause the IBM machine I've bougth here just accept PCI video cards.
Rating: - PNY 256mb PCI video card
This is a great card for older machines with no AGP slot, also great for adding an extra video card to an AGP machine if you need an extra card and your AGP card only has one connector.

Rating: - Dual monitors without trouble in WinXP but not in 64-bit Linux
I bought this card ten months ago and have been using it happily with my Windows XP (SP-1 and SP-2) systems. However, when I boot to my Linux alternate OS, the 64-bit version of Fedora Core 9, I've had a lot of trouble, and some of it appears irremediable.
After much fiddling in the Linux OS, I finally got my desktop to stretch across both monitors, treating them as a single, extended screen. But I have not been able to get them set up as "twin-view" (nVidia's term), in which I can set up each monitor as a separate screen, each with its own wallpaper, its own resolution setting, and its own orientation. I like to have one monitor set up in landscape orientation and one in portrait. Easy to make this card do that in WinXP, but can't get it done in Linux 64-bit.
Rating: - Don't buy anything PNY..
Let me start by stating that I'm a Sysadmin for a medium sized network. In addition to that, I've assembled hundreds of PC's. I purchased and installed this card without issue. The unit worked for a little over a week before it began crashing to a black screen. Once the card was removed and the original configuration was restored, the machine was back up with no issues. The vendor would not provide an RMA but directed me directly to PNY and so began an email dance back and forth with generic trouble shooting info that didn't apply to the card. After several attempts to get an RMA, and continuing to get more "help" I finally gave up and threw the card away. Having dealt with many RMA's over the years, I'm amazed how unresponsive this vendor is. I will never use any PNY product for home or work.
Rating: - Excellent Performance, Bargain Price !!
Quick and easy install on a 9-year-old DELL XPS T600 running WinXP Home, SP3.
The 256MB of memory took some load off of the CPU, and made a HUGE difference in the overall performance of the machine --- Faster initial loading, applications and programs loaded and ran faster, and overall video quality improvement was spectacular !!
A real high-performance upgrade for an older machine that's already maxxed out with memory.
It's quiet (no fan),too --- but it runs pretty warm, so make sure your machine is clean inside and has good cooling.
I am very pleased in all respects, and will buy another one for my 2-year-old DELL 3100.
