Rating:  - Great player but amazon has it listed for way to much.
Don't get me wrong Oppo makes a great player and are well worth the money. But you can buy this same exact model for $399.00 directly from the manufacturers website.

I replaced my two year old Oppo 970 player with the new 983, and have been very pleased. I can easily see the increased sharpness on my 42" Philips plasma TV, but increased sharpness is only part of what this player offers.

Rating: - One of the best universal players on the market!
I never heard of Oppo until researching for a new universal player. I read reviews and felt satisfied to try one. I am blown away on how great this player is. I have a Marantz that was more than double the cost and it was a lemon from the start. It's getting harder to find good SACD players but Oppo came up with one. Can't wait to see if they come up with a Blu-ray Player at an affordable cost.
Rating: - No need for Blu-Ray!
Have a HUGE collection of DVD's and starting all over with Blu-Ray is simply out of the question! Now with the 983, I have all the 1080P HD I need! THANK YOU OPPO! This is a Machine....period!

I just had to add my happiness with the player, to this avalanche of praises. I will not be technical since all there is to know or find out, it is explained within these reviews. I got it, hooked it up to my LCD screen and watched in wonder, tons of DVDs. What an experience! What a machine! What joy!
