Rating: - DVD playback, awesome. Blu-ray playback, iffy at best.
I've been using PowerDVD since around version 2, and it's always worked quite nicely for DVDs. In fact, I'd say it's just about perfect. Blu-ray is another story, however.
When I first tried playing a Blu-ray, the program just shut down... no error message or anything. After checking out their support page, I downloaded and installed the latest patch (2217a as of this writing). Now I am able to play movies pretty smoothly under XP (w/SP3), but it's definitely rough around the edges. ... Read More
Rating: - My favorite DVD playback software
I've used PowerDVD for many years. It works quite well and supports the wide variety of media that I want to play. This new version is no exception. It supports formats like MPEG-4 AVC and DivX Pro, the HD detail is quite satisfying.
Audio-wise, PowerDVD works fine on 7.1 ch and 5.1 ch. No complaints.
The thing I like particularly is the feature called "Do It Smart" with which I can move subtitles and repeat dialogs.
