Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Packaging Questionable
When I received the Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10,000 RPM SATA Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD3000GLFS, it was double boxed; a smaller box in a larger box. The hard drive itself was secured very well in the smaller box, in molded plastic. But the smaller box was just placed in a larger box with no additional packing which allowed the inner box, with the hard drive, to just jostle about during shipping & handling. Knowing a little bit about how hard drives are built, I sure hope the poor packaging ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Drive, packaged OEM
The Western Digital 10KRPM Velociraptor hard drive series is the fastest non-solid state drives out there. There are no funky drivers or software or connectors or cables or anything: the drive plugged in just like a standard SATA drive, bolted to my PC's chassis just like any hard drive, and was whizzing away at 10,000 revolutions per minute as soon as I hit the power switch.

I wish I had benchmarked my system before and after to compare the true impact of the drive: I do notice an improvement ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - FAST and Silent
300Gb, 10,000 RPM, fast. This drive is incredibly fast. Is is $100 faster than a 7,200 RPM version? For my money, yes absolutely worth it.

Mounting is a breeze. Slips into any 5.25 bay like any other drive. That big old heat sink actually makes it fit better or more stable.

I love this drive.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fast Drive
Should come as no surprise these drives are fast although expensive. Purchased two and set them up in a Raid0 array the system just scoots along. Should mention the drives are a little noisy but I pruposely built a very quiet rig perhaps that is why the noise stands out.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Fast drive but is an OEM product and not listed as such. Disk has many bad sectors out of the box
First off, this is not listed as an OEM product, but it is in fact OEM. That means that it does not come with any supporting documentation, SATA cables, power cables, or retail packaging. Its very frustrating that Amazon has neglected to list this as "OEM." I don't have a problem buying OEM, I do it all the time as I've got a large supply of left over computer parts and always have things like SATA cables lying around. However, for the 'average joe,' expecting a retail package, the way this item is listed could ... Read More
