Rating: - Disappointing!
If I hadn't misplaced all the shipping materials, I would have returned this.
Pros:
It does a good job of up-sampling DVDs to 1080p.
The unit isn't ugly.
Cons:
DVDs burned on this unit do not work (unknown format) in another Philips DVD Player, a Panasonic, and a Bose. I was able to read them on my PC.

Eminently satisfactory for my purposes. A slightly longer learning curve than I had hoped for.

So nice not having to put in video tapes! Love this machine and tell all my family and friends to buy one for the convenience and hassle free recording. The dubbing feature to dvd is a wonderful thing also. Thanks Philips for a great machine!

Once it was hooked up with a HDMI cable (nice, cheap one through Amazon), the picture was great, both for standard and digital cable (yes, it will record digital channels) and the upscaling of standard DVDs. It is easy to set-up, and programming the timer is very intuitive, with multiple recording quality settings (nicely compared in the manual) and chaptering settings ... Read More
