Equipped with Emulsion Direct Imaging Technology (E.D.I.T.), the Microtek ArtixScan M1 use 4800-dpi optical resolution, 16-bit digital output per channel, auto focus and new film holders with tension technology. I normally don't write reviews, but in this case I feel compelled to let others know in advance what an important manufacturer has done to cut costs and how this policy affects the buyer/user.
We recently learned (the hard way) that Microtek has ENTIRELY discontinued tech support by phone. The only way to reach support is by email. They promise a 24-48 hour response! Rating: - Great Product...Questionable Software
The M1 Pro is a fine product that provides excellent quality digitized images of my old Kodachrome 35mm slides that date back to 1953. The software with the unit however required five "uploads" and five "uninstalls" before my new iMac would accept it on the sixth try. Further, I still haven't been able to upload the SilverFast Ai Studio software. The SilverFast is needed since the color calibration for the M1 Pro uses the SilverFast software...Grrrrr.

Everything you could possibly need, but definitely for the advance consumer or design pro. The glass face film scanning is great for a good variety of films - better than most dedicated film scanners as well. Tons of software included. It is a bit slow and, for hi-rez scans, it can be a bit noisy, but the results tell the tale.

I have a Microtek scanner and just downloaded the latest drivers. It turns out Microtek wants a program called Scan Finder to load at every start-up, and there is no way to disable this. The product works satisfactorily, but for my money, I will purchase something else. Something that doesn't create such a nuisance, and isn't so invasive.
