The Spinpoint F1 utilizes Samsung-developed perpendicular recording technology, which helps the drive set new records in both a real density and platter capacity. The Spinpoint F1 requires fewer components than competing solutions while delivering enhanced reliability versus a 1TB drive with four or five disks or two 500GB disks. With fewer heads and disks, the F1 statistically has a lower probability of headdisk failures. According to estimates, this Samsung drive has a 50% lower failure rate than a two- 500GB-drive solution and as much as 31% fewer failures than five-platter 1TB drives.Servers, high-end desktops, RAID systems and DVRs are among the applications well suited to the Spinpoint F1 drive. The drive is available with desktop PC- or RAID-level reliability. Mean time between failures for RAID reliability is up to 1.2 million hours. A rotational vibration sensor enables the drive to operate more efficiently in a RAID environment. For consumer applications, a power-saving code reduces power consumption while AV-optimized firmware cuts time delays during AV data recording. In general, the Samsung drive offers a superior combination of density, recording quality and reliability.

Rating: - 1TB of Data Goodness!
Samsung's QTY 3x 334GB platters are arguably the most important element of the Spinpoint F1 desktop class Hard Drive not only because they represent a technical milestone that is a marked improvement over what the competitors has been able to accomplish to date.
The more data one can squeeze onto a hard drive platter, the higher its areal density. This influences performance because higher areal densities allow the drive head to access more data over shorter physical distances, which ... Read More
Rating: - A good drive
I ordered this drive, got it in good time at a very good price, received it, put it into an enclosure, and hooked it up via firewire. It is preforming without a problem.
Rating: - great hard drive
Hat's off the Samsung for a top-drawer high-capcity drive. Read the specs and you'll understand the innovation. You'll appreciate the performance in the spin.
