Good product. The only minor problem so far that you have to turn on and off and then on again to let vista to detect usb device. Anyway it doesn't occur on a regular basis.

Compared to other enclosures this is an excellent item. I chose to give it four stars because like all the others the case is not ventilated, no fan option, no auto shut-off. Someday there may appear an enclosure that deals with the heat build up. The problem seems to be that when you shut off your computer the drive in the enclosure continues to run and gets very hot; which concerns me about the effect upon the hard drive. Rating: - Beware of poor quality control
Ugh. I got a lemon. The screw hole to attach the case was machined improperly and it cut clear through the side of the mount. So, I can only secure this with one screw. The label on the back peeled off and the AC adapter cord is too short to be of much use.
It's not even worth my time to send this back because I need to use it for a project right away.

I was using a Western Digital My Book 500gb External HD for almost a year and occasionally when I would reboot my machine the drive wouldn't be recognized until I unplugged and restarted it a few times. Eventually it stopped being recognized altogether so I decided to purchase a new enclosure, hoping that the HD itself was still functional. Well, I ordered this through regular standard shipping on a Monday and it was at my place on Wednesday. That was an amazingly fast turnaround.
Rating: - Make good use of an old hard drive
I replaced an 80GB hard drive with an 1T drive, but didn't want to give away or put the old drive on the shelf. This enclosure solved the problem, and gave me a new external USB drive for a very small investment. It was a piece of cake to install the drive in the enclosure, and it worked great right from the start. I searched all the possible enclosures, and selected this one because of price, durability and style. I wasn't disappointed in any way.
