Rating: - Slow to initialize a disk
Its takes a long time for a disk to be initialize in vista. Sometimes over a minute. If I leave a disk in the drive the computer freezes on boot up. The Asus drive clicks over and over until I open the drive. As soon as it opens the computer continues to boot normally. Definitely has a problem getting disk information right away.
It does burn good if you don't mind the long wait. Even a blank disk takes over a minute to initialize.
Rating: - My 2nd ASUS DVD-RW drive
In contrast with the previous ASUS drive I had, this one is far superior. I have had it for about two weeks, and on the first day it was installed, I learned quickly that this is a fast, reliable drive. It takes a total of 9 minutes to burn a full DVD-R (we are currently running 1 gig of RAM). Fast. And so far no issues at all. It does what it is built to do.
I haven't tried using the lightscribe feature yet, though.

This drive did not include SATA cable or mounting screws.
If you require these you will need to purchase them separately.
Retail versions of a product should include such items. It is not clear why these are missing.

It works fine. It is quiet and so far has done everything from reading to burning Lightscribe disks.
