This is essentially garbage at an exorbitant price. The key feature, "smartscan", is utterly useless. Not only did it fail to automatically find any available vacant frequency as advertised, it consistently was unable to use even those vacant frequencies to which it was manually set. Customer Assistance was, most charitably, less than helpful or cooperative. I just purchased the Griffin iTrip AutoPilot and it is really a fantastic product, I had reviewed it prior to purchase but never expected it to be this good.Simple to operate, a breeze to hook up, everything it was promised to be and then some, I am a 68 year old Senior Lady and I had it up and functioning in under 5 min. Amazon was right there for me as well with the ease of purchase and timely shipping. I am super satisfied.
Rating: - Must Set Frequency Below 88.1
There is a way to get the frequency of this device set below 88.1, and for me, at 87.7 or 87.9, it works just great (I was going to return it if I couldn't get it down to these frequencies). I tried following the instructions from other reviewers to set at 87.9, but was having no success. So, I called Griffin and the rep. told me there is a way to do it, that I could probably figure it out, but he wasn't allowed to tell me because these lower frequencies are "illegal" in the US. Having purchased an iPhone 3G in july I have found it fustrating to find things that work correctly with it. I have tried various fm transmitters only to be disappointed. To be clear, I have been using the Belkin Tunecast Auto, and the iTrip autopilot does seem to have weaker signal strength in the default USA mode. HOWEVER!! More than a review I just want to let you all know that the international mode is still present in the new releases of this fm transmitter. I bought one 1 week ago and after testing different combinations I found how to enter to the international mode setup.
