Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Absolute junk
The software was terrible - definitely access it directly using the local IP address on your network. The drive crapped out after about 2 months - the fan is not up to the job and it burned up during a 400 MB backup.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not a real NAS drive. Its junk
WD calls this a NAS drive. While it does have the ability to attach via ethernet, it cannot be attached to like a real NAS drive. You must install a client software. It is also very slow.
It seems to be for one person to use, so why not just get a usb/firewire drive instead?
Disappointed. I'm returning it and gladly taking the 20% restocking fee hit.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 1 TB of space online in less than 5 minutes
I must say I was hesitant about opening the package after reading some of these reviews on the WD My Book, but what the heck I thought. I can always return it. It is amazingly small and quiet. I unpacked it and plugged it in to my Linksys Router. It booted, picked up an IP address and became visible to all my computers. No passwords or user accounted needed. I just drag and drop my files. It's pretty fast at 100 MB, so I am happy with the speed. I expect it to be faster when I upgrade to ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Great Slowness
Its so SLOW.
This product is great - I setup it up for my mac, super easy.
Would not have bought it if I really realized how *slow* it was.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Don't Recommend Included Software!
Just attach this drive to your network and figure out the IP address the drive is using (typically 192.168.0.x). Then in your web browser type in the IP address (mine is http:\\192.168.0.10) to access the built-in interface. It's easy from here. (The instructions tell you that you MUST load their software--not true.)

Other than the pain of figuring out the above, the drive is adequate. I didn't check the speed before purchase--but it's OK for my small home network.
