I bought this for my daughter who is in the first grade to assist her with learning to read. I read a number of positive reviews. I now wonder if those reviews were plants by the manufacturer. The product does a very poor job of scanning and is difficult for an adult to use, much less a child. It comes with a devise you must attach to it in order to "practice" before it will effectively scan. The worse thing about it is the speaker, which is barely audible.
