Rating: - Died in less than 2 years
I have had this hard drive for less than 2 years. Used it just for backing up pictures, music and documents. I noticed it ran a little warm, but wasn't too alarmed. I went to back up new files this week and it was completely dead! I tried to call the 800# in the manual and they were useless and barely spoke English. I will never buy Western Digital again.
Rating: - Does what it's suppose to
Well, for the price, I thought it was worth getting this hard drive. WD is a well reknown brand of hard drives and this one, so far, has performed up to its reputation. I just took it out of the box, plugged it in and that was it. No formatting was necessary, no setting up necessary, it just works right out of the box.
I must say though that I've only had mine for about a month. No problems yet

It works great and is really convenient. I didn't have room for some of my programs before I got this.

The technical info didn't specify whether this came with a power adaptor - it does. I found it noisier than the freecom external harddrive that I have and it's a bit slower at copying files over, but works fine. It's just a pain to have to find a power socket rather than being powered through USB

I ordered The Western Digital 500GB Elements External hard Drive. I then called Western Digital to registared this external hard drive. They said this particular hard drive was made in Europe because the serial number didn't match the United States serial numbers on there list. So, they couldn't support this hard drive. So, I decided to send it back to Amazon.com.
