Editorial Review:

Product DescriptionPlanon introduces the DocuPen RC800 color handheld scanner - the latest technology breakthrough from the R&D efforts. Planon has been able to achieve full color 24 bit scanning in a remarkably compact and light form that provides you with the ultimate convenience. The RC800 is capable of storing 100s of pages into memory and it takes just seconds to scan a page. Choose the mode you want to scan: black and white, standard color or high 24bit color and the resolution from 100 to 400 dpi. Now you can scan your letters, color documents, pictures and bring them into Paperport software (included with the Docupen). The DocuPen is different from other pen sized scanners in that it scans a full page width and therefore scans the entire page including text and graphics in as little as 4 seconds. Other handheld and pen scanners only scan single lines of text or records handwriting and some scanners need to be attached to your computer whereas the Docupen overcomes these limitations. The need for convenient out of office scanning is enormous but has not been satisfied because the products to date did not fulfill that need adequately.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Do not buy this item - It is not well designed.
This pen is very interesting, it has a great concept but it performs rather bad. The other reviewers were right in saying that this product fails in every aspect, its a great technical feat but it does not deliver. Some problems I found was when I was trying to scan a book, this becomes very difficult as you have to hold the book down, while holding the DocuPen hard against the book. Towards the middle the Docupen actually wrinkles the page. Now dont get me wrong, it works great if you were scanning ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic Scanner
I work at the courthouse and their is a line for the copier. I am able to finish twice as much work as before with this pen. If you do not need to copy color pages then definately would get the black and white. It works great on low resolution. I am the envy of the courthouse.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - It works until the battery doesn't recharge anymore...
A very cool gadget, and no complaints about the scanning itself. Great images. Very true scanning, and easy to do.

The unit I received was odd. The first issue was cosmetic quality control. There was surplus cellophane tape on the lens which I had to carefully remove. The cloth "bumpers" on the ends of the lens promptly came off, revealing sloppy glueing of the case. These things should have tipped me off to structural difficulties to come. I'm an optimist, though, and continued to ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Just awful!
It's terrible. If I knew how it would be I would not have bought it. Unacceptable even if it were a lot cheaper!

I didn't expect much quality for a scanner this size, but the image quality is so low that documents are unreadable sometimes. Scan speed is slow, and you have to wait for it to store the scan in memory (about 15-20 seconds per full-color page) before scanning another page.

Forget about the internal memory, which can barely hold 2 full-page color scans, you have to ... Read More
