Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GOOD PRODUCTS ARE NEVER DISCONTINUED
WE HAD TWO OF THESE UNITS WHICH PERFORMED VERY WELL UNTIL A LINE SERGE BLEW OT BOTH OF THEM.WITH NO INTERNET ACCESS AND THE POPULARITY DROPPING IN FAVOR OF THE WIRELESS NETWORK MODEM,WE WERE IN A "CATCH 22",NO MODEM TO ACCESS THE INTERNET TO GET MORE.WE THOUGHT THESE MODEMS WERE LONG DISCONTINUED.US ROBOTICS,NOW AN INDEPENT PRIVATE COMPANY WAS VERY HEPLFUL. THE STRANGE PART IS THESE MODEMS HAVE NEVER BEEN DISCONTINUED,BUT,THEY PRODUCED A THIRD EDITION.THEY PROVIDED THE PHONE NUMBER TO ONE OF THEIR ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A solid performer if configured right...
I have run the 5610B on both Mandrake 10.1 and Win XP builds with no issues - as long as the modem is configured to operate using COM5. I found a discussion group thread on the web that indicated such; gave COM5 a try and haven't looked back.

It works great with WinFax Pro, too. However, this modem maxs out fax transmissions @ 14.4k. A bit pricey, but reliable.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - US Robotics 5610B is a HOAX!! DON'T BUY THIS!!!
I bought the USR5610B performance pro modem january 2006 and it was very disappointing. First of all it is overated, my Rockwell HCF 56K modem connects faster than this USR. The whole line probing technology could be a hoax, nobody knows if it actually does what it claims. Not to mention the game mode, if the game mode is so much superior for games then why can't it be used for normal downloads? Nobody seems to know exactly what game mode is, I think that could be another hoax. Also my cd did not have ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - It works, but it's soooooo slow
It works, but it's kinda slow. It operations around 40k only, when it should be 56k. People who are ghetto should get this cuz it's really cheap, and dial-up intenet is cheap now. Cable internet is too expensive. If you're just browsing, or are ghetto, or don't have cable or DSL service, this will do. If not, get cable internet. It's so much better.

LAST WORD: Ghetto people should get this.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Works perfectly across my WinXP, Win98, and Linux OS's
I bought this modem because I needed a modem that would work with my Mandrake Linux installation. I wanted the modem to work with my Windows XP & 98 installations as well. I've been using the modem across all three platforms for several weeks now and it works perfectly. Also, the install was simple for all three operating systems. I highly recommend the modem whether for single or multiple OS's.
